reached RAV club around 7pm+. had a short briefing with the organizer, George. after tat, cigarette breaks & chats outside the club ensued. the crowd only start trickling in close to 9pm.
first band to come on was Claire's Flower Shop. i had a pretty good impression of them at last week's heats but today, i sortof saw another side of the band, or rather, the bassist. could tell he was the take-charge leader, very authoratative. anyway, that's just my personal take.
there was a band that played Linkin Park covers...A.L.P i think? gawd...lots of screaming from their vocalist/screamer. let's just say...alot of ppl kinda moved back a few inches with every scream...~
my fav for the night was Mistaken Identity. interesting sounds & pretty cool melodies. they were really tight & kickin' it. would like to see 'em play more gigs...
we were the 8th band to come on so..throat was feeling kinda dry but once we kicked it off, i think i can say we kicked a bit of ass.. :)
there was a little bit of distraction midway thru 'puppets' cuz i dunno wat the heck the sound engineer was doing but suddenly, he pumped in ALOT of echo into my mic so after each word/syllable, there's a repetition, making me go a little haywire. thank gawd he brought it down towards the end of the song. also, the strobe lights were pretty happening..hehehe..
'perception' turned out pretty well 'cept for a few minor hiccups but other than that, think that was the one with the most 'feeling'..hehe..really hoped the crowd liked it cuz that was our debut performance of the song...
after our set, George asked if we wanted to play an extra set during the interlude so we glady took up the offer! unfortunately, i had a serious case of gastric straight after & i grimacing in pain throughout the last band's set. had to head to the opposite 'mama shop' to get a pack of milk to soothe the stomache.... it was really bad.
we played the extra set with 'broken wings' & 'fade away'. b.w went ok...but for f.a., erm, let's just say we should've stuck to playing one song...haha...
results time. the rest getting excited. me still clutching my stomach.. So.....................................................
1)we're going to the semi-finals!!
2)we got the People's Choice Award!!!!!
totally didn't see it coming at all! maybe cuz i had the mentality of just playing at this event one time only. whether or not we advanced further it didn't really register in my head cuz i was worrying about the street fest gigs. but still, to have gotten the People's Choice Award must mean something. i'm really humbled... also, on a personal note, i'd really like to know wat the other bands thought of us, as much as i have to say about them. it'd be pretty interesting i guess..& good to know our own strengths & weaknesses from other ppl's POV.
supper took place next followed by a catch up session with neil, joshua & alicia at Lau Par Sat. stayed there till 6am cuz of the pouring rain. oh well....
-justin, kenny, zhigao, zhicao, jesper, zhiying, JQ, michelle, huiling, jie-yen, neil, angel, alicia & joshua. thanks guys, for being there. it was a blast.

starting to feel a little nervous. whether can we pull this off well..
that's how long we spent at beat merchants studio last night. man..gotta say this..it was one helluva night!!
met up the guys at bugis junction before we made our way down to the studio. was practically waiting there for 2hrs++ cuz i had to meet up with art's friend, ronald & his band mate to discuss with them regarding my 24-track recording project as i'll be needing his band to be my 'recording subject'. oh well, guess i was too early myself.:?
we spent the whole night just thrashing thru most of our songs as well as working on 2 new songs that we may consider putting on the album. 'overrule' sounds much better now with an added guitar-crunching lick by jiehui. hehe... 'puppets' sounds a little bit tighter, especially during the breakdown/solo section of it.
'judas' & 'fade away' didn't really had much changes cuz i guess we worked on those in the wee hours of the morning so felt a little drained maybe.
man..it was damn fun..spent one whole night just jamming, smoking, chatting, having fun...we were thinking to ourselves, 'i could get used to this sortof lifestyle'..haha..but oh well, it's nice to dream yah?
i wonder if there're any other bands out there(in local context) that's done the same thing as us? HHhhhmmm...
'perception' turned out to be the best of wat we worked on last night. will definitely be playing it at the upcoming street fest...
missed a stop when i took the bus home. had to go to the opp side of the rd to U-turn back. sigh...not fun, luggin' 2 guitars & an efx board around when u're totally drained....~
going down to esplanade library later to be the sound tech for some SSO talk. simple setup. mic, play a cd. duhz. oh well..some experience is better than none.
will be going down to zouk after that for justin's birthday. been clubbing alot lately...
internet connection on my main com is down. dunno wat happened but something screwed up the proxy settings i think. now resorting to hooking up my dad's iBook to surf the net. typing on a laptop ain't fun....~ seems eric & justin r also having the same prob. could it be.....*gasp*...a virus?!?
choi...touch wood...~
been trying to rush out some of my assignments in sch. the 'blues' mixdown went pretty ok..just need another session to touch up the effects & mayber further EQ & levels before submitting it with the logbook. of course, i still have my 24-track recording assignment proposal to worry about... :?
contemplating whether to invest in a little MIDI controller for composing with REASON. if i get a powerbook in the future, i can try composing on the move. haha...well, let's finish one FULL song first before we talk about all this stuff...
if u're scratching ur head & wondering wat in god's name i'm babbling on about, it's ok. i'm wondering as well.

next week is my cousin's birthday. still wondering wat to get for her...hhhhmmm...
my sis has been staying back over at our place since her hubby's out for reservist. she woke up this morning with a really bad case of food poisoning. could see that she was totally drained & had no energy to even finish a proper meal.
after lunch, she went back to her room to rest but after a few moments, i could hear her calling for mum. it didn't sound like her normal self so i went to her room as well to see wat was happening. my sis was practically shivering in pain. could hear her almost like she was crying.
immediately called for a cab to send her back to clinic she visited earlier in the morning. she had to hold on to my hand while just making her way to the door. i was starting to get really worried for her. i've never seen my sister in so much pain. while walking down the stairs, she asked me to pray for her & her child.
in the cab, i felt like crying. knowing that my sis was worried whether her child would be affected or not, since the pain was really bad in her tummy. i could feel that she was worried sick. i put my hand on her knee, not saying a word. i wanted her to know that things would be alright. i hate to see my sis in such agony.
thankfully, when we got to the clinic, andrew called to ask where we were since he had just booked out so i told him to rush down to the clinic. i guess sis must've been so relieved to see him there. it's in times like these, the person u'd want to see most is ur loved one. ur other half.
the doc gave her a jab & i guess, she started to feel slightly better after a while. the baby's safe.
it's 1.45am now. my sis must be sleeping soundly in her room. i really hope she gets well soon.
was at HMV yesterday when i heard this song by david usher called 'hallucination'. the song was pretty simple, ok..nothing fantastic. nice melody & all..but what blew me away was this heart-wrenching melodic guitar solo. the solo itself was pretty easy to pull off but it was THE SOUND that was like 'WOAH'.
it had a very warm overdrive tone, delay & alot of reverb thrown in & another effect that i still can't pin point. sounded like a cross between tremolo & flanger..~
the closest song that i can think of that reminded me of that sound is luna sea's live version of 'mother' which they played during their final act tour dvd.
my biological clock is seriously starting to get screwed up. oooh boy...~
had a jam session with the guys at good 'ol boon's studio yesterday evening. was half expecting the session to turn out bad cuz the last time we ever jammed/perform was at the heartrocksingapore gig back in march. surprise, surprise, we didn't suck. :D
after the session, art, eric, jiehui & me took a cab & rushed down to china black to join zhigao & zhicao(no relation), who extended a very last min invitation to party. when we reached pacific plaza, the queue was horrendously long!! never have i seen such a long queue for china black whenever i pass by & it just had to be THIS long on the night i decide to go there. to rub more salt on to the wound, i felt damn out of place cuz jiehui & i were lugging our guitars whereas everyone else looked comfortably 'accessory-free'. sigh.
anyway, after the long wait, we got in da club, let our hairs down(as well as our guitars) & chilled for a while before hitting the dance floor. gawd, it was SO packed! we almost had to end up fidgeting rather than dancing on the dance floor.
was looking around at all the ppl(notably the hot babes) around me. there were those who could dance, & those who couldn't. those who didn't fit in & tried to fit in. u could see some gals on the platforms really doing their thing so much so that eric & i would just stand there for a moment just looking at them. fwah, hot ah hot ah!!
decided to head back to the chill-out lounge area & join jiehui(who declined dancing with us), zhigao & zhicao. they had some female company with them so i was thinking 'hhmm..ok. at least this isn't too bad'. since half the time i go clubbing, it's usually with male company*bleah*.
got to know a gal amongst the grp. she seems nice..pleasant face, nice personality & well, warm. she didn't shy away or tried to act cool. just an honestly friendly gal. hhmmm.... 8)
left china black around 3am & headed down to eric's place(with constant teasing from eric while art was pretty much stoned). got back home around 7am before waking up at hrs i normally wouldn't wake up to.
little girl why the sad face? do you find yourself out of place? "i wish i could help you but i don't have the time" or rather, what she said was a lie
little boy why the lack of joy? don't you have enough toys? "i wish i could help you but i don't see why" he doesn't care if you cry
