if u're wondering wat happened to my previous lengthy post, i've decided to replace it with a much shorter entry. dunno y..but i just didn't really like the way i typed that entry..felt kinda 'wrong' in some ways...sigh.. so, if anybody felt offended with wat i wrote previously, my sincere apologies...
to cut the long story short, we got the 1st runner up prize as well as the people's choice award. :) it was a tough fight. all the other bands put up equally solid performances so it was hard to tell how it would all turn out. soul'd out got the top prize whereas claire's flower shop got 2nd runner up.
this whole competition has opened up so many new experiences for us. we've made new friends(mistaken identity, grayrayne, scarlet ash), first time playing in a club setting(hehe), we've learnt more about ourselves, both as a band as well as individually. the bond between us all has also somehow strengthened. more importantly, we've learnt how to appreciate. the support that we've gotten since the start has been overwhelming as well as humbling.
i shouldn't be having them in fact. we had a pretty productive 2hr jam session on fri evening, no major hiccups of sorts, sound was evenly balanced..could hear everyone's playing. still, i dun feel good? it's like the calm before the storm..when things r going too smoothly? bahz..gotta somehow shrug it off.
hung out at art's place with the whole band till the wee hrs of the morning. can say it's the first in a long time the whole band(yup, all 5 of us) actually got together to do...NOTHING! just chatted away, drinking coffee & smoking, basically just chilling & having a good time. we should have more of these kindof 'events'..hehe..
i might be falling sick. been waking up feeling a little warm/feverish lately. not before the jemnation finals lah...~
recently ripped a few local albums that i have into my com. playing them alot. sigh...it's all seriously good stuff..but i can safely bet that less than half of the local population has even heard of them? dun say half, maybe less than 1/4 even! gawd...wat a waste...
my entire local album collection(for now):
Concave Scream - self titled, Erratic, Three Nightsound - bleed Humpback Oak - pain stained morning, ghostfather The Lizard's Convention - here's a funny fish, hurrah! Sugarflies - and that's why ELMO - 90 degrees to the rest of the world The Padres - night The Observatory - time of rebirth Sherene's Closet - kept secrets 10 years & counting - various
cheers to local acts.

will be sending justin off later to his first day of enlistment(national service). i think i can sortof recall my first day as well. nervous as a wreck, holding every moment with anticipation, not knowing wat to expect. in the end, i had to sortof go thru the motions day by day. made the training & shit life a whole lot easier in some sense...hope it all goes well for him... :)
lots of stuff happening lately. sch work as usual..lectures all the way thru..album recording taking off...getting ready for jemnation finals...etc..it's all pretty exciting!
we went into the studio to record can't let go & broken wings. can't let go took a pretty darn long 6hrs! but at the end of it, i was pretty satisfied with how it turned out. the band was satisfied. though we'll still be going back to brush up some parts to make it even better. :)
by 3am+, we were kinda dead beat tired. still, i was keen on giving broken wings a shot. but in my mind, i was wondering whether we could pull it off. i didn't wanna waste the band's energy & reqx and joshua's time with a session that we'd end up re-doing. first 2 tries went pretty 'bleah'. we were like going thru the motions, simply playing the song thru our heads.
reqx gave eric & i a little 'pep talk' before deciding that the 3rd take would be our last try before we called it a day. a moment silence filled the recording booth. i looked down & stared at the floor with a blank mind. eric started playing the first few notes & somehow, a strange vibe filled the booth. it had a sense of sweet sorrow. i couldn't quite pin it down but i knew deep down that something's gonna happen.
emotions started filling me up. memories of the past & a face i thought i'd forgotten came back vividly in my head. eric's playing started getting heavier & heavier by each key. i was singing my heart out to the pt i choked on my words. at the end of it all, eric was visibly tearing. i was fighting back my tears. just that one song alone sucked every single ounce of energy & emotion out of us both.
i kinda screwed up the opening line by going a 'lil off-key with the 'I...'. sigh. wtf.
i dunno how ppl r gonna react when they hear this song on the album. but i know at the very least, it was an honest interpretation of the song that came straight from our hearts.
as how humpback oak would put it, there's no finer time to be alive.
A journey Fleeting moments Precious and fragile A fervent desire Gazing into your eyes Lying next to you; brushing against your bare skin Gentle kisses The pendulum swings A sense of longing as tears roll down my cheeks Not for eternity nor about the past but the present A voice within me tells me I can get through this “ soon…soon it’ll be over ”

thanx for sharing that with me gal. it's beautiful.
u must be thinking 'WTF HAPPENED TO UR HAIR?!?!?!?'
haha..gotten sick of the whole black color so decided to get it dyed with some help from justin & eric. u dun need a $80+ salon price tag with J & E creative consultancy pte ltd! *hint: J=justin, E=eric*
spent the whole of last night recording at HOMESTUDIO. managed to nail down most of can't let go. will be going in again to fine tune it a little more. we also attempted to record broken wings, with surprising effects. it wasn't perfect. it wasn't the best. but it was the most emotional.
realised how much more work i needed as a vocalist.
better do more preps before the next recording session. we seriously wasted too much time last night.
some pics taken by our friend ioriel at our 2nd & last street fest gig outside cineleisure. haven't been really posting much pics lately. getting quite long-winded in fact..haha..
finally..feel like i've had huge load of troubles lifted off my back. i'll elaborate a 'lil...
finished about 80% of my sch recording project. spent an overnight session with arthur's friend, ronald & his band. they wanted to record a Dream Theater cover of 'One Last Time'. damn..they were good! made my job alot easier as well..hehe..
wasn't supposed to record drums past 9.30pm but well...oh wat the heck. continued on till we got it right. got home 'round 11am the next day...~bah..i hate the scorching sun..~
later that evening, headed down to club RAV for the jem nation semi-finals. place was packed..atmosphere felt right..wasn't really having any jitterbugs of sorts..but techinically, there were a few hiccups for most of the bands & it shouldn't have happened in the first place.
mistaken identity suffered at the hands of a screwed up guitar amplifier. just when they started to get the groove going for their first song, the amp died out on them midway thru a solo guitar riff. damn anti-climax man...~ but thankfully, they managed to get it all back in place soon after...*whew*
unfortunately, grayrayne also suffered somewat the same fate with tat god-forsaken amp. sound was cranky & the tone wasn't right. in fact, the sound didn't do justice to their set, which should've rocked. still, i like that song of theirs...'Loner' isit?? intro melody is really nice...
scarlet ash sounded very gackt for their last song. eric turned to me & we both confirmed our suspicions that it sounded alot like gackt's 'seki ray'. oh well..gotta ask them the next time i see them..hehe..
as for our set? well...let's just say the whole band felt pleased with how it all turned out. but one thing i gotta say though..jiehui pulled a last min stunt by strutting up to the set in his kimono! fierce...he said it was a 'surprise'.
hehe..surprise us he did...8)
thanks to all our friends who came down to support us & the ppl who cheered for us. it was really heart-warming. the list is long but for those who do read my blog, u know who u are...
Thank you.
p.s:finals are on the 27th of june, 9pm.
my mind's bogged down by alot of things lately it's wearing me down.
i need a spark.
"passing days half sober, like a broken toy in motion"
my apologies to all my friends if i seem to have been wearing a rather long/black face lately. haven't been sleeping well & feeling a little drained of energy.
we'll be playing our last street fest gig tomorrow(fri) evening outside orchard cineleisure @ 8.25pm. hope the sound doesn't get cranky on us.
one more gig for the weekend..we're playing at the Jem Nation band competition Semi-finals @ club RAV(69 circular rd) on sunday. starts @ 9pm...alot of good bands will be there as well.
it'll be nice to see a few familiar faces.. :)
back home after a long & tiring day. we just played a gig at the street festival, faber house park. reached heeren around 4.30pm with art, with all our equipment in tow.
eric reached slightly later with justin & zhigao. now, their's is really a SHITLOAD of stuff! cuz eric & justin needed to clear out all their stuff from their t-shirt shop in chinatown so they jam-packed practically almost everything into these huge backpacks & gawd, it was SO fuckin' heavy...i swear...even my BMT fieldback wasn't as murderous...~
we started off our set with a bit of delays. my guitar was sounding really muffled & soft...i dunno how it sounded from the audience's POV but it was really bad from where i was. the gig was...well...simply put, not up to our usual standards. felt that we could've put up a better performance. lessons learnt i guess..in the end, we learn & improve upon.
& jiehui's guitar string snapped just after our first song! oh well, guess there's a first time for everything. surprisingly, he managed to pull thru with one string less. that guy never fails to amaze me.
we'd better buck up for next friday's set @ cineleisure...
saw GrayRayne performing around 8pm. this time, they played around 6 songs & it was a much tighter set compared to their previous one at Jem Nation. sound was so much better for their set(wonders wat the engineer was doing) as compared to ours. one song had a riff sounding alot like Korn. seriously not bad stuff.
after that, spent the next few hours rotting away at spinelli's, exchanging lame/cold jokes. gawd, wat a way to end the day...haha...
